Episode #101: CVI Now
In this episode of Open Book, we hear from Rachel Bennett, Director of CVI Now. "Our goal is to help you understand CVI, share the lived experiences of people with CVI, follow and share the current research, give everyday strategies, and build community."
Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a brain-based visual impairment caused by damage to the visual pathways or visual processing areas of the brain.
CVI is alarmingly underdiagnosed and misunderstood. Less than 20% of children with CVI have been diagnosed, according to new research conducted by Perkins School for the Blind with analysis from McKinsey & Company.
Every individual with CVI, no matter their zip code or how their CVI manifests, has a right to early diagnosis, comprehensive, effective vision services, and accessible educational programs.
CVI Now is here to empower families and professionals with deep and evolving CVI knowledge, resources, and tools rooted in current research and the lived experiences of people with CVI.
